Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is attracting attention as a new
method for photographing three-dimensional tomographic images of organisms
and matter which are optically translucent. In particular, there is expectation that
the method can be applied to new medical diagnostic devices. The division
researches and develops this new OCT method and seeks application to medical
diagnostic devices in the future. | |

Terahertz waves are electromagnetic waves that have frequencies between
those of light and radio waves. Terahertz waves pass through various materials
and are safe for the human body. These signals can interact with biological
materials through their oscillation modes on a cellular or molecular level.
The division conducts research and development for measurement technology
which uses these electromagnetic waves, and seeks to apply the technology to
new medical diagnostic technology.

A molecule associated with ionization and dissociation is a realistic dynamical
system of fundamental few-body problem. Dynamical problems of such excited
molecule are theoretically studied mainly by the scattering theory. This study also
develops fundamental atomic data, which are utilized for the relevant scientific
fields as the plasma physics. |
